Pssst I want to talk you about something, its not always easy to say and you might not like what I have to say, but I’m off on a rant, so don’t stop me now (that Queen song is totally playing in your head right now isn’t it!!)
Ok so here goes….. Stop Treating exercise like a punishment, like a chore, like something you hate but have to do… because you are bloody lucky! Moving your body is a privilege!! You are incredibly lucky that you are able to move.
If you are making excuses or hating it and thinking you should only exercise because you want to lose weight, you are simply viewing it wrong and its time to stop complaining about it, and be bloody thankful that you can move, trust me… your body may not be the same as it was 5 years ago, 10 years or whatever but let me tell you, it can move, and for that you are incredibly lucky!
Ok since I’m on a rant, I’m going to give you a quick 10 reasons that exercise is good for you and guess what, its got nothing to do with weight!!
• It Reduces your blood Pressure
• Increases your energy levels
• Helps your mood
• Helps your brain….. helps you remember things
• Maintains your immune function, it reduces your risk of chronic disease.
• Keeps your bones strong and young
• Builds muscle mass to hold your frame up
• Improves breathing
• Helps you sleep
• Lowers your Type 2 Diabetes risk
So tell me what else in the world is such an ultimate medicine apart from food?
Don’t like running? Hell me either, do something else, go for a bike ride, get on a spin bike, do a class, row, climb a ladder, play a game of tennis, take the kids to the playground and play on the equipment instead of just watching them, go for a walk, walk fast, walk slow, whatever you do just get your ass moving and appreciate that you are healthy enough to move your body. Take the stairs at work not the lift, park your car further away and walk to the shops….. walk to the shops with the kids and make it a game… go to a boxing class and punch something……Put on your favourite song super loud and dance around your living room, Do some yoga…. I could give you a million examples… just move.
Kids kept you awake last night and you feel wrecked?? Trust me, you will feel a whole lot better if you do some form of movement, than if you sit on the couch in front of the TV.
As a Personal Trainer I know that everyone is different, everyone has differing needs and wants, so I none of my sessions are the same, and of course just because I am interested in lifting heavy things doesn’t mean that I am going to make everyone lift heavy things… and that is because everyone is different and has different needs and that is why we are lucky that we know many many differing ways to move it.
So put your big girl pants on, stop complaining and start appreciating that you are lucky to have a body that is capable of moving, stop being so narrow minded about how you should exercise and get creative…. There you go, you are reminded.
